Removing
1. Remove the gearbox.
2. Cars up to 9/89, issue. and station wagon models: Disconnect the clutch release lever return spring from the gearbox housing and remove the release bearing from the clutch release fork.
3. Vehicles since 10/89, except station wagon models: Remove the release bearing together with the clutch release fork and then remove the bearing. On all-wheel drive models from 1/90 y. observe the installation position of the intermediate plates, see illustration.
Examination
1. Compress the release bearing and turn at the same time. On cars from 9/89, issue. Stretch the bearing and turn at the same time. If the bearing is difficult to rotate, install a new bearing.
Attention! The bearing is long-term lubricated and should not be cleaned or lubricated.
Installation
1. Lightly lubricate the contact surfaces on the release bearing and the release fork with MoS2 grease.
2. Attach the release bearing to the fork and insert both elements onto the gearbox shaft.
Attention! On all-wheel drive models from 1/90 y. between the clutch release fork and the release bearing is a needle bearing, which facilitates the actuation of the clutch. Before installing a new release bearing, move both intermediate plates with a spring from the old bearing to the new one.
3. Attach the clutch release fork cover to the gearbox housing.
4. If equipped, attach the clutch release lever return spring.
