Removal
The camshaft drive belt must be removed in the following cases: when removing the cylinder head, oil pump and water pump.
Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
Loosen the generator mounting bolts, loosen the drive belt tension and remove it.
Remove the generator drive pulley.
Remove the crankshaft pulley by unscrewing the six mounting bolts on the toothed pulley.
On vehicles with the B6 EGI engine, place a lifting device over the engine and hook the cable to the lifting eye on the timing drive side. Remove the upper engine mount bracket.
Remove the front timing belt covers.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise by the pulley mounting bolt so that the marks on the camshaft toothed pulleys or on the camshaft toothed pulley, on the crankshaft toothed pulley are opposite the marks on the rear protective cover of the toothed belt.

Loosen the tension roller mounting bolt.

Move the tension roller back using a lever or by pulling the opposite branch of the belt, and tighten the tension roller mounting bolt.
Remove the camshaft drive belt.
Installation
Check whether the timing marks on the camshaft toothed pulleys or the camshaft toothed pulley and the crankshaft toothed pulley are aligned with the marks on the rear timing belt cover (see photo).

Place the timing belt on the pulleys.
Loosen the tensioner roller mounting bolt to allow it to self-align.

Tighten the tension roller mounting bolt.
Turn the crankshaft two turns clockwise using the pulley mounting bolt.
Make sure that the timing marks on the timing pulleys and the rear timing belt cover are aligned.
Check the tension of the camshaft drive belt; on B3, B5, B6 engines, the normal belt deflection when pressing on the branch between the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys with a force of 10 kgf should be within 9-13 mm; on the B6 EGI engine, the normal belt deflection when pressing on the branch between the camshaft pulleys with a force of 10 kgf is 10-11.5 mm.

Install the front timing belt covers.
Install the generator drive pulley.
On vehicles with the B6 EGI engine, install the upper engine mount bracket and disconnect the hoist cable from the engine.
Install the crankshaft pulley.
Install the water pump and alternator drive belt.
Tighten the belt by moving the alternator away from the engine and tighten the alternator mounting bolts.
Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery.
Start the engine and check the ignition timing.
