Removal
Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
Remove the air filter.
Loosen the front wheel nuts.
Disconnect the speedometer drive flexible shaft from the gearbox.
Disconnect the gear shift control cable from the transmission.
Disconnect the ground jumper from the vehicle body.
Remove the coolant hose and air hose brackets from the transmission.
Disconnect the plug connectors.
Remove the two (on vehicles with model "B" engines) and four upper (on vehicles with model "E" engines) bolts securing the gearbox to the engine block.
Disconnect the terminal block from the neutral position sensor block.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum modulator.
Disconnect the oil lines from the gearbox and close their openings with plugs.
Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.
Drain the oil from the gearbox.
Remove the front wheels.
Remove the lower and side shields.
Disconnect the ball joints of the suspension arms from the steering knuckles.
Remove the ends of the inner joints of the front wheel drive shafts from the gearbox half-axle gears and move the shafts to the side.
Raise the engine slightly using a lifting device.
Working underneath the vehicle, remove the powertrain suspension crossmember by unscrewing the five mounting bolts.
Remove the starter.
Remove the torque converter cover.
Remove the lower transmission mounting bolts from the engine block.
Tilt the engine to the left and place stands under the gearbox.
Remove the remaining gearbox mounting bolts.
Remove the gearbox.
Installation
Install the automatic transmission in the reverse order of removal.
