Disassembling the shock absorber / removing and installing the shock absorber / coil spring (Mazda Familia BG)

Removal

1. Remove the shock absorber strut.

2. Remove the cap from the shock absorber rod.

3. The coil spring is compressed. To release the shock absorber, the spring must be compressed even more to relieve the spring cups. Compress the spring with a suitable compressor.

Caution! The shock absorber nut can only be loosened when the spring is compressed.

4. Clamp the shock absorber support in a vice and loosen the mounting nut by one turn using a socket head or a strongly bent open-end wrench, do not unscrew.



5. Compress the spring with a standard spring compressor. MAZDA workshops use a special device for this. Compress the spring by approximately 10 mm.

Caution! Insert the compressor into the spring so that it securely grips the spring coils and cannot jump off. Compress the spring at three points, evenly spaced around the circumference. The coil spring is subjected to a high degree of compression, so only a reliable tool should be used. Never tie the spring with wire. Risk of accident.

6. Unscrew the fastening nut and remove the shock absorber strut elements one by one.

Caution! If the spring needs to be replaced, it must be released slowly. If, on the contrary, only the shock absorber needs to be replaced, the spring remains compressed. Installation

Lubricate (lithium universal grease)

Shock absorber strut up to 9/89 year of issue. see. illustration.



1. Install the lower cup (up to 9/89.) and a compressed spring. Make sure that the spring enters the stops of the lower and upper cups.

2. Place the rebound buffer on the piston rod.

3. Place the top rubber ring and spring cup.

4. From 10/89: Install the thrust bearing.

5. Install the upper mounting plate so that the mark faces the center of the vehicle, see Section Removal and installation the shock absorber strut.

6. Clamp the mounting plate in a vice, placing protective pads underneath. Tighten the new self-locking nut on vehicles up to 9/89 with a force of 70 Nm, since 10/89 with effort 100 Nm.

7. Place the protective cap on the shock absorber nut.

8. Slowly release the spring.

9. Install the shock absorber strut.
