1. Remove the wishbone and check both rubber mounts for cracks, damage and deformation.

2. Replacing the rear rubber support: Unscrew the nut "7", remove the washer and bushing.

3. Insert a new bushing and washer, align it perpendicular to the lever. Tighten the rubber support nut with force 110 Nm.

Replacing the front rubber support: Cut off the rubber bushing protrusion. Then press the bushing in a vice using a socket head and a suitable pipe. In MAZDA workshops, a special device is used instead of a pipe.

Attention! If the bushing does not press out, it should be heated and cut along the outer contour to reduce stress.

5. Moisten the new bushing with a small amount of soap solution and press it in from the front side using a special tool.

6. Install the transverse arm, see Chapter Suspension and steering system.

Checking/replacing the ball joint

1. Ball joint (ball joint between the wishbone and the steering knuckle) should be replaced if there is noticeable play or if the cuff is damaged.

2. Checking in installation condition: Raise the vehicle.

3. Move the lower arm up and down by hand. The ball joint should not have any noticeable play. A precise check is only possible when removed.

4. Unscrew bolt and nut "6".

4. Unscrew bolt and nut «6».

5. Press the ball joint pin out of the steering knuckle using a pry bar. Place a cloth underneath to avoid damaging the seal.

6. Loosen the bolts securing the steering knuckle to the wishbone and remove the ball pin.

6. Loosen the bolts securing the steering knuckle to the wishbone and remove the ball pin.

7. Install a dynamometer or torque wrench with the appropriate mount. Turn the ball pin. Read the force required to overcome the friction force. Required value: from 1.8 to 3.1 Nm, otherwise replace the ball joint.

Replacing the cuff: Clamp the ball joint in a vice and knock off the cuff with a hammer and chisel.

Caution! Make sure that the ball joint is not damaged.

9. Lubricate the inside of the cuff with a small amount of universal grease and press in with a suitable tube. MAZDA workshops use a special device for this.

10. Screw the steering knuckle to the wishbone with 2 bolts using force 110 Nm.

11. Insert the ball pin into the steering knuckle, insert the bolt from front to back and tighten with force 60 Nm.

12. Measure and adjust wheel alignment angles.
