Removing
1. Loosen the wheel nuts of the car standing on the ground.
2. Mark the position of the wheel disks in relation to the hub. Thanks to this, the balanced wheel can be installed in its original place.
3. Raise the front of the car.
4. Remove the wheel.
5. Support the front suspension on the transverse arm so that the drive shafts do not sag down after the suspension strut is removed. To do this, place a suitable support or hydraulic lift under the control arm.
6. Remove the fastening bracket -1- of the brake hose on the spring strut.
7. Loosen the 2 nuts -2-, remove the pin -3- and separate the suspension strut from the steering knuckle.
8. Unscrew the 4 upper fastening nuts -4- (until 8/89, issue. only 2 nuts) suspension strut and remove the complete suspension strut. At the same time, make sure that the rubber cuff of the drive shaft is not damaged by the released rack. If necessary, wrap the cuff with a cloth.
Attention! Never loosen the middle shock absorber nut, as the spring is under compression.
Installation
Cars up to 9/89, issue. and model "station wagon"
Vehicles since 10/89, except models "station wagon"
1. Insert the suspension strut from below so that it enters in the center of the upper support. The mark on the shock absorber mount must face inwards -toward the center of the car-.. If this is not done, it will not be possible to adjust the correct camber.
2. Screw the nuts onto the studs on the suspension strut support from above. Tighten the nuts with a torque wrench 30 Nm.
3. Screw the steering knuckle to the suspension strut.
Attention! Insert both bolts from front to back, nuts will be located at the back. Tighten nuts to 110 Nm.
4. Lay the brake pipeline, put on the bracket on the brake hose holder.
5. Screw on the wheel, paying attention to the markings on the wheel and hub. Lower the vehicle and tighten the nuts crosswise with force 100 Nm.
6. Check wheel alignment as soon as possible, adjust camber if necessary, see Section Wheel alignment.
