Checking the piston rings of the cylinder block (Mazda CX-5KE)

1. Using a piston, press the piston ring into the cylinder 43.9 mm from the top edge of the cylinder block.



2. Using a set of flat feeler gauges, measure the gap in the piston ring lock. If the measured value exceeds the maximum permissible value, replace the piston ring with a new one.

Note:

Standard piston ring gap:

• Upper compression ring: 0.13-0.18 mm.
• Second compression ring: 0.18-0.28 mm.
• Oil scraper ring (expanding): 0.10-0.35 mm.

Maximum permissible clearance in the piston ring lock:

• Upper compression ring: 0.35 mm.
• Second compression ring: 0.45 mm.
• Oil scraper ring (expanding): 0.52 mm.
