Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the engine hood.
Remove the battery and its mounting bracket.
Put the car on a lift and raise it.
Remove the engine cover.
Drain the oil from the crankcase and gearbox, drain the coolant.
Unscrew the nuts securing the pins of the ball bearings of the front suspension arms to the steering knuckles.
On vehicles with a B6 EGI engine, disconnect the transmission relay from the cylinder block.
Remove from semi-axial gears of a transmission tips of internal hinges of shafts of a drive of forward wheels.
Disconnect from a transmission of draft of a choice and a gear change.
On B3, B5, B6 engines, disconnect the muffler intake pipe from the exhaust manifold, on the B6 EGI engine, from the turbocharger.
On carbureted engines
Remove the air filter.
Disconnect the throttle control cable from the carburetor.
Disconnect the fuel supply and drain hoses from the fuel pump.
Disconnect the wires from the electrical components installed on the engine.
On engines with a fuel injection system
Remove the turbocharger.
Disconnect the throttle cable.
Remove the air filter housing with the air quantity meter and the ignition coil.
Disconnect the fuel supply and drain hoses from the fuel filter and pressure regulator.
Disconnect the wires from the injectors, throttle angle sensor, temperature and pressure sensors. Disconnect the terminal block from the ignition distributor block. Disconnect the plug connectors on the engine and gearbox.
On all engines
Disconnect the flexible speedometer drive shaft from the gearbox.
Disconnect wires from starter and alternator.
On carbureted engines, remove the ignition coil from the side member.
Loosen the clutch cable stop nut and disconnect the cable from the gearbox.
On vehicles with automatic transmission, disconnect the shift control cable from the transmission.
On VZ, V5, V6 engines, disconnect the hoses from the radiator and remove the radiator.
Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the engine.
Loosen the nuts securing the front and rear suspension mounts to the cross member of the suspension of the power unit.
Sling the power unit.
Remove the upper suspension pad.
Raise the power unit and remove it from the engine compartment.
Install the power unit in the reverse order of removal, bearing in mind the following:
- with each removal of the power unit, it is recommended to replace the differential box seals, tie-down collars and self-locking nuts;
- replace seals if necessary;
- after connecting the throttle actuators and clutch, adjust them;
- when installing the front wheel drive shafts, take measures not to damage the differential box seals;
- after installing the power unit, start the engine, check the ignition timing and idle adjustment, and on vehicles with a B3 engine, check the adjustment of thermal valve clearances. Check for oil and coolant leaks.
