Operating a car with an automatic transmission

For normal driving, only gear position "D" should be engaged.

If the shift lever is to be shifted to the "R" or "P" position, if the lever is to be shifted from "D" to "2" or from "2" to "1", the button on the shift lever handle must be pressed. This is illustrated by the arrow.... In the direction of the arrow..., the gear selector lever can be moved without pressing the button.

Note: When shifting the lever from neutral or park to forward or reverse, depress the brake pedal.

Caution! Only engage the shift lever in the "R" and "P" positions when the vehicle is stationary.

Caution! Never accelerate the engine with the gear in forward and the brake pedal depressed.

Warning! Never hold the car on a hill by increasing the RPM. Always use the brake system.

Attention! Shift to steps "1", "2", "D" or "R" from "N" or "D" position only at idle speed.

Starting the engine

Use the "N" or "P" lever position.

R — (parking position)

Switch on only when the vehicle is stationary.

Note: The Park position cannot be used as a parking brake. If you leave the vehicle unattended, even for a short time, always apply the handbrake, engage the Park position and remove the ignition key. The vehicle must not be left unattended with the engine running.

R — (Reverse)

To reverse, turn it on only when the vehicle is stationary.

N — (neutral position)

Idle position (press the brake pedal)

D — (movement)

This stage is used for normal driving. The shift intervals are set for economical operation.

2 — (second stage of movement)

This position should be engaged during heavy or slow driving, when driving uphill, when driving downhill to achieve maximum braking force, when starting off on a slippery road or in other situations where gentle acceleration is required. Remember that when driving in the second stage, the speed must not exceed 110 km/h, 100 km/h (1.3 l).

1 — (first stage of movement)

This stage is designed for heavy towing work and for driving on steep ascents or descents. Remember that when driving in stage 1, the speed must not exceed 60 km/h, 55 km/h (1.3 l).

Forced downshifting (KICKDOWN)

(only at stage D)

When overtaking or driving in the mountains, fully depress the accelerator pedal. The gearbox will automatically shift to a lower gear.

Starting to move on big climbs

Press the brake pedal with your left foot and move the shift lever to position "D" or "1". Slowly press the accelerator pedal with your right foot and release the brake pedal at the same time.
