Checking the hydraulic valve timing regulator
Attention.
- A hot engine can cause burns. Before starting work, turn off the engine and wait until it cools down.
- Do not disassemble the hydraulic valve timing regulator as it is a precision unit.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the decorative engine cover.
3. Remove the ignition coils/ion sensors.
4. Remove the cylinder head cover.
5. Make sure that the rotor groove and the recess in the phase shifter cover match each other.

Original version of the article on the website (MAZbook.ru)
If the rotor groove and the cover recess do not match, rotate the crankshaft in the direction of normal engine rotation one revolution and check the position of the groove and recess again. If they still do not match, replace the hydraulic phase shifter with a new one.
Note: When the crankshaft is rotated, a knocking sound will be heard from the hydraulic phaser every time the cam reaches its maximum lift. This indicates that the actuator is not locked. In this case, the hydraulic phaser must be replaced with a new one.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
