Front suspension independent, spark plug (pseudo MacPherson type), with hydraulic shock absorbers, with coil springs, lower triangular levers and anti-roll bar.

The suspension arms are attached to the body by means of silent blocks to the steering knuckles using non-separable ball joints.

Shock absorbers

Shock absorbers are hydraulic, telescopic type, double-acting, non-separable design. Model "1600 Turbo GTX" equipped with a front suspension with adjustable shock absorber stiffness.

Anti-roll bar



The anti-roll bar is a rod whose knees are connected to the triangular suspension arms by means of pins with rubber and rubber-metal hinges. The middle part of the rod is attached to the body with brackets through rubber cushions.

The diameter of the stabilizer bar on station wagons with a B5 engine, mm: 29.2.

The wheel hub rotates on two tapered roller bearings.



Tightening torques of main threaded connections, kgf·m


  • Nut of the bolt securing the telescopic strut to the steering knuckle: 9.5-11.9.
  • Upper support mounting nut to body: 2.3-3.0.
  • Nut for fastening the shock absorber rod of the telescopic strut to the upper support: 5.6-6.9.
  • Nut of the bolt securing the ball joint of the suspension arm to the steering knuckle: 4.4-5.5.
  • Nut for the bolt securing the ball joint to the suspension arm: 9.5-11.9.
  • Steering rod ball joint mounting nut to steering knuckle: 3.0-4.5.
  • Nut securing the stabilizer bar to the body: 3.2-4.7.
  • Wheel mounting nut: 9.0-12.0.
