Checking voltage
Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage at the following four points in sequence:
- when the ignition is on, the voltage "U" at the battery terminals must be at least 11 V;
- the value of voltage "U ₁ " on the terminal "+" of the ignition coil must be equal to the value of voltage "U". If "U ₁ " is 0, this means that the supply voltage is not supplied to the coil;
- the voltage "U ₂ " between the terminals "+" and "-" of the coil must be equal to 0. Otherwise, the switch or wire No.3, going from the ignition coil to the first terminal of the switch connector block, is shorted to "ground".
Checking the ignition coil
Check the resistance of the secondary winding with an ohmmeter, which should be within 10-30 kOhm, and make sure there is no short circuit to the vehicle ground.
