Cars up to 9/89, issue.
1 - exhaust pipe of the muffler; 2 - front and middle mufflers; 3 - rear muffler; 4 - rear pipe of the model "Sedan"; 5 - rear pipe of the model "Compact"; 6 - differences: diesel model; 7 - gasket (replace); 8 - differences: catalyst; 9 - catalyst; 10 - lubricate the rubber mount (high temperature grease)
Vehicles since 10/89 (catalytic version), front-wheel drive
1 - exhaust pipe of the muffler; 2 - catalyst; 3 - middle muffler; 4 - rear muffler; 5 - differences: diesel engine; 6 - gasket (replace); 7 - exhaust manifold; 8 - heat shield; 9 - rubber mount; 10 - lambda probe
lubricate (high temperature grease)
Attention! The removal of the complete system will be described. However, each part of the exhaust system can be replaced individually. Be sure to replace the rubber buffers and gaskets, as well as the fastening nuts.
Removing
1. Raise the car.
2. Coat all bolts and nuts of the exhaust system, as well as the joints with a rust-corrosive agent. Wait a while for the product to work.
3. Loosen the flange bolts on the rear muffler and slide back.
4. Disconnect the rear muffler from the rubber mount and remove.
5. To unscrew an average exhaust pipe, to disconnect a rubber support and to remove.
Attention! Do not subject the catalytic converter to impact during removal and installation, as it may be damaged because of this. Do not fall or hit with a hammer.
6. To unscrew a reception pipe of the muffler from a final collector.
Installation
Attention! To make it easier to loosen the bolts and nuts of the exhaust system, it is recommended to cover them with a high temperature paste, such as Liqui Moly LM -508- ASC.
1. If used exhaust pipes are installed, the ends of the pipes must be cleaned of carbon deposits with sandpaper before connection.
Attention! The exhaust system must be especially sealed for models with a catalyst. Therefore, all seals must be replaced with new ones, otherwise there will be deficiencies in dynamic performance.
2. Install the exhaust pipe of the muffler on the exhaust manifold and evenly tighten new nuts without fully tightening yet.
3. Screw the exhaust pipes and mufflers.
4. Before tightening the bolts, align the pipes and mufflers and attach to the rubber mounts. Ensure that there is sufficient clearance from the bottom (minimum 25 mm).
5. Tighten the mounting flanges from front to back with the specified tightening torques.
Attention! Do not overtighten the bolts, otherwise the gaskets will be flattened, resulting in leaks.
6. Lower the car.
