Removal and installation spark plugs
Caution: Using spark plugs other than the recommended type will reduce engine performance. When replacing, install only the recommended spark plugs.
Note: Spark plug type: PE01-18-110, PE02-18-110.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the decorative engine cover.
3. Remove the ignition coils with ion sensors.
4. Remove the spark plugs using a spark plug wrench.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Note: Spark plug tightening torque: 15-20 Nm.
Checking spark plugs
Attention.
- To prevent possible damage to the tip, do not adjust the gap in the spark plug electrodes.
- To measure the spark plug gap, use a round deformable feeler gauge.
1. Measure the spark plug gap using a round deformable feeler gauge. If the measured value is not within the standard (0.75-1.10 mm), replace the spark plug with a new one.
2. Visually check the following:
- Damage to the insulator.
- Electrode wear.
- Damage to the gasket.
- Insulator burning (from the electrode side).
If any defects are found, replace the spark plug with a new one.

3. Using a tester, measure the spark plug resistance as shown in the figure. If the measurement results are not within the norm, replace the spark plug with a new one.

Note: Spark plug resistance (at 25°C): 3.0-7.5 kOhm.
Cleaning spark plugs
Attention.
- Carbon deposits on the spark plug tip can form when driving a car short distances in winter. In case of malfunctions such as unstable engine operation at idle or difficult starting due to contamination of the spark plug with carbon, you can clean the spark plug by accelerating the engine to high speeds without load.
- To accelerate the engine to high speed, it is necessary to apply the parking brake and move the gearshift lever to the neutral position (manual transmission) or the selector lever to the P position (automatic transmission) to prevent an accident and serious injury.
- To prevent possible damage to the spark plug tip, do not use a steel bristle brush for cleaning.
Note:
- To prevent possible damage to the spark plug tip, use gasoline to clean the spark plugs after removing dirt.
- If the accelerator pedal is continuously depressed for a certain period of time, the engine speed may drop to idle speed. This is due to the fuel cutoff control function preventing the engine from overheating, and is not a malfunction. The engine speed returns to normal after the accelerator pedal is released.
- Do not accelerate the engine to high crankshaft speed for more than 10 seconds.
If there is carbon deposits on the spark plugs, accelerate the engine twice to 4000 rpm for two minutes.
