- Open the filler cap and check the gasket for damage or cracks.
- Check the tightness of the ventilation hose from the filler cap to the air filter.
- Cylinder head cover gasket.
- Cylinder head gasket.
- The connection point of the ignition distributor flange.
- Oil filter gasket: Filter on flange.
- Oil drain plug (gasket).
- Oil pan gasket.
- The junction of the engine and gearbox (gasket on the flywheel or gearbox shaft).
2. Since the oil spreads over a large area when there is a leak, it is quite difficult to immediately detect the leak. When searching, proceed as follows:
- Wash the engine. Cover the engine with cold cleaner and rinse with water after a while. Cover the ignition distributor and generator with plastic bags beforehand.
- Sprinkle the joints and seals on the outside of the engine with talc or lime.
- Check the oil level and top up if necessary.
- Conduct a test drive. Since oil liquefies when heated and therefore leaks more quickly, a test drive should be made over a distance of 30 km on a high-speed road.
- Then, by shining a lamp on the engine, determine the location of the leak and eliminate the problem.
