Starter fault diagnostics (Mazda 121 (3))

If the starter does not turn, then the first thing to check is whether the voltage required for its operation, which is at least 10 V, is supplied to contact 50 of the traction relay when the engine is started. If the voltage is less than the specified value, then the starter circuit wires must be checked according to the diagram. The operation of the starter at full voltage can be checked as follows.

When the gear in the gearbox is not engaged, turn on the ignition.

With the help of a wire (cross-section of at least 4 mm²) jumper starter terminals 30 and 50.

If the starter operates normally, then the fault is in the wires going to the starter. In this case, check the starter with it removed.

Test conditions: wire connections must be tight and not oxidized.
