If the traction relay is faulty, the starter drive pinion does not engage with the flywheel ring gear. Because of this, the starter cannot turn the engine. This fault is less common than a faulty starter itself.

Check in installed state

Turn off the gear, move the gear lever to neutral position.

When checking, the battery must be fully charged.

Using an auxiliary wire, short-circuit contacts 30 (a thick wire from the battery goes to it) and 50 (thin wire to the ignition switch). The starter pinion should move forward and the starter should engage. If this does not happen, remove the starter and replace it

Removal

Remove the starter and recheck the battery. The auxiliary wire is used as the starter wire. If the pinion moves forward and the starter does not work, then the starter motor needs to be repaired.

If the gear does not move forward, unscrew the traction relay bolts, remove and replace it.

Installation

Installation

Lubricate the starter separating flange (F) with a suitable sealant.

Attach the traction relay to the drive lever inside the starter, then secure the relay with bolts.

Install the traction relay wire.

Check the starter again as described above.

Install the starter.
