The WL engine is an in-line, four-cylinder, 16-valve diesel engine with overhead camshafts and liquid cooling. The engine displacement is 2.5 liters. The cylinders are numbered from the crankshaft pulley.
The new generation WL engine is designed on the basis of the previous generation engine and is its modification. The main distinguishing feature of the new generation engines is the use of the Bosch Common Rail system and a turbocharger with variable blade geometry.
