The WL engine is an in-line, four-cylinder, 16-valve diesel engine with overhead camshafts and liquid cooling. The working volume of the engine is 2.5 liters. Cylinder numbering is from the crankshaft pulley.
The new generation WL engine is based on the previous generation engine and is its modification. The main distinguishing feature of the new generation engines was the use of the Bosch Common Rail system and a turbocharger with variable blade geometry.
