Attention. If the combination stalk disc is deformed or contaminated with foreign material, the performance of the steering wheel angle sensor may be reduced, which will adversely affect the performance of the stability control system. When handling the contact disc, be careful not to deform the disc and ensure that no foreign material gets on it.
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least one minute.
3. Remove driver airbag module (see previous section).
4. Remove the steering wheel.
5. Remove the steering column cover.
6. Disconnect the contact disk connector.
7. Vehicles with steering angle sensor: Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.
8. Press the latches in the direction of the arrows in the figure, and remove the contact disk.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
Attention. If the contact plate is not adjusted, the twisted wire in the contact plate may be damaged due to excessive stretching when turning the steering wheel. Be sure to adjust the contact disc after installing it.
Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position.
Turn the contact disc clockwise as far as it will go.
Attention. The contact disc can be damaged from over-rotating. Do not apply force to the contact disk.
Turn the contact disc counterclockwise by about 2 turns.
Align the mark on the contact disc with the mark on the outer housing.
Note: After alignment of the alignment marks, you can check the correctness of the adjustment by matching the guide with the viewing groove, as shown in the figure.
10. Verify that the airbag system indicator flashes for 6 seconds and goes out. If the airbag system indicator does not illuminate, perform a system check using the on-board self-diagnosis using the M-MDS.
