The diesel engine's vacuum pump is located on the cylinder head and is driven by a pushrod from the camshaft. The pump creates the necessary vacuum for the brake booster to operate, since a diesel engine, unlike a gasoline engine, does not create sufficient vacuum in the intake manifold.
Removal

Disconnect the return oil hose and the vacuum hose (1) going to the brake booster from the vacuum pump by first loosening the clamp and sliding it away from the pipe.
Unscrew the two bolts (2) and remove the vacuum pump with the sealing ring.

Installation
Insert the sealing ring, checking it for damage first and replacing it if necessary.
Install the vacuum pump and tighten the two bolts evenly to a torque of 25 Nm.
Install the oil return hose and vacuum hose.
