The selected range of motion (PRNDL) is engaged by a control cable on the automatic transmission. The cable must be adjusted after the automatic transmission or shift mechanism is installed.
Checking the adjustment
Set the selector to position "P".
Support the car in front.
Make sure the gearshift lever on the gearbox is in the "P" position by turning the front wheels until the parking lock engages (the front wheels will lock up).
If the front wheels do not lock, adjust the control cable.
Adjustment
Disconnect the control cable from the gear shift lever on the gearbox by prying off the mounting pin.
Move the gearshift lever on the transmission until the parking lock engages. To check, turn the front wheels.
Set the selector lever in the passenger compartment to position "P".

In this position, the holes in the gearshift lever and in the head of the control cable fork should match and you can easily insert the mounting pin into them (left arrow). Otherwise, adjust the cable length.
To adjust, pull the cable back (right arrow). Slide the rubber boot on the cable back and turn the fork along the thread in the desired direction until the holes in the shift lever and cable match up and you can insert the mounting pin.
Insert the mounting pin and secure it by snapping it into place, put on the rubber boot.
