Removal and installation



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 1 minute.

2. Remove the driver's airbag.

3. Remove the steering wheel (see chapter "Steering").

4. Remove the steering column cover.

5. Remove the spiral wire in the sequence of numbers shown in the figure.

1 - screw,

3 - spiral wire.


6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Caution: Adjust the position of the spiral wire after installation. Installing the spiral wire without adjustment may cause it to break.


7. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

8. Check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes out. If the indicator does not come on, remains on, or flashes, the system is faulty. Perform diagnostics.

Adjustment



1. Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position.

Caution: The coiled wire body may crack and cause injury, do not apply force when installing.


2. Turn the spiral wire clockwise until it stops.

3. Turn the spiral rein counterclockwise 2.75 turns.

4. Align the marks on the coiled wire as shown in the figure.

Examination



1. Remove the spiral wire.

2. Using an ohmmeter, check for conductivity between the terminals of the spiral wire.

3. Replace the spiral wire if necessary.
