Engine lubrication system — general information (Mazda 121 (3))

All-season motor oil must be used to lubricate the engine. Its advantage is that the oil in the engine does not need to be replaced depending on the season. All-season motor oils are based on the use of liquid motor oil with a single viscosity value (for example, 15W). With the help of so-called thickeners, the oil is stabilized in a hot state, i.e. the necessary lubricating properties are provided for each operating mode.

The SAE designation indicates the viscosity of the motor oil, for example, SAE 10W40:

• 10 - oil viscosity when cold. The lower this number, the thinner the motor oil will be at low temperatures.
• W - motor oil can be used in winter.
• 40 - viscosity of oil when hot. The higher this number, the thicker the oil will be at high temperatures.

Synthetic oils are all-season motor oils that, among other things, have anti-friction additives, which reduce friction inside the engine. Purely synthetic oils are used as a base for such oils.

Additional lubricants must not be mixed with fuel or other types of oils.
