A. Seasonal oils (not used); B. All-weather oils; C. Synthetic oils.
Viscosity grades of engine oil used
Ford Fiesta with petrol engines | SAE 5W30 |
Ford Fiesta with diesel engines | SAE 10W40 |
Mazda 121 (all models) | SAE 10W30 |
Ford KA | SAE 10W30 |
Since the areas of application of neighboring SAE classes overlap, short-term temperature fluctuations can be ignored. It is allowed to mix oils with different viscosity classes with each other when adding oil, if the operating temperature range of the added oil corresponds to the viscosity class of the oil in the engine.
Engine oil specification
The quality of engine oil is determined by the standards of vehicle manufacturers and oils.
American engine oils are classified according to the API system (API: American Petroleum Institute). The designation consists of two letters. The first letter means the scope: 5 - Service, for gasoline engines; C - Commercial, for diesel engines. The second letter corresponds to the quality in alphabetical order. The highest quality according to the API classification includes oils with the designations SH for gasoline and CF for diesel engines.
European manufacturers of motor oils also use the CCMS classification. At the same time, the features of European engine production technologies are taken into account. Oils for gasoline engines are divided by quality in accordance with CCMC classes from G1 to G5; oils for passenger car diesel engines belong to the classification from CCMC-PD1 to CCMC-PD2.
The European Commission for SSMS introduced the ACEA classification (Association des Constructeurs Europeens de I'Automobile), which determines further checks and quality steps. Oils for gasoline engines of passenger cars in accordance with this classification belong to classes from ACEA A1-96 to AZ-96, oils for diesel engines - to classes from B1-96 to VZ-96.
Caution: Engine oils that are recommended by manufacturers for diesel engines are not suitable for gasoline engines. There are oils that are suitable for both gasoline and diesel engines. In this case, both classifications are given (e.g. CCMS-b5/PD2 or API SH/CD).
