Shine a light on the dust caps from all sides and check for damage, paying attention to traces of grease on and near the covers.
If the caps are damaged, replace the entire corresponding joint together with the cap. Any dirt that gets in will damage the joint.
Check the tightness of the hinge mounting nuts, but do not tighten the nuts.
Note: The Ford KA has a locking cotter pin on the tie rod end mounting nut. The Ford Fiesta/Mazda 121 has self-locking nuts.
