Removal the steering gear with rods in assembly
Attention.
- There is a risk of accidentally breaking the wiring if the ABS wheel sensors are not removed before performing the following procedures. Disconnect the ABS wheel sensor connector before performing the following operations (from the axis side) and secure the wiring in a suitable place so as not to accidentally touch it when working on the car.
- Fix the steering wheel with tape or wire to prevent the steering shaft from turning after disconnecting. If the steering wheel is turned after the steering shaft is disconnected from the steering gear, the internal parts of the contact disk may be damaged.
1. Remove the hinge cover.
2. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear shaft.
3. Disconnect the wires from the front ABS wheel sensors mounted on the steering knuckles and set them aside.
4. Remove the front protective tray No.2.
5. Remove the front protective tray No.1.
6. Remove the mudguard.
7. Remove the front subframe assembly (see chapter "Suspension").
8. Loosen the mounting bolts and, by successively moving the steering gear in the direction of the arrows in the figure, remove it from the subframe.

Checking the steering gear and rods
1. Remove the steering gear with rods as an assembly.
2. Remove the tie rod ends and dust boots.
3. Using an adjustable wrench and a dynamometer, measure the torque of resistance to rotation of the steering gear shaft (the approximate measurement speed is 5°/sec):
- Place an adjustable wrench on the steering gear shaft.

- Measure the distance from the center of the gear shaft to the edge of the adjustable wrench (dynamometer application points). This will be the length of A.
- Calculate the moment of resistance to rotation of the gear shaft using the following formula:
Moment of resistance to rotation of the gear shaft (Nm) = Value measured by the dynamometer (N) x Length A (m).
Note: Moment of resistance to rotation of the pinion shaft (from the rack center ±180°): 1.0-1.6 Nm.
4. If the obtained value does not correspond to the norm, replace the steering gear with a new one.
Installation of steering gear with rods assembly
(Data provided by the website: MazBook)
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
After installation, it is necessary to check the installation angles of the vehicle's steering wheels (see chapter "Suspension").
