1. Bolts for fastening the relay gearbox to the subframe.
2. Steering gear assembly with rods.
Removal of a steering reducer with draughts assy
Attention.
- If the ABS wheel sensors are not removed before performing the following procedures, there is a risk of an accidental break in the wiring. Before performing the following operations, disconnect the ABS wheel sensor connector (from the side of the axle) and fix the wiring in a suitable place so that it does not accidentally touch when working on the car.
- Secure the steering wheel with electrical tape or wire to prevent the steering shaft from turning after it has been released. If the steering wheel is rotated after the steering shaft is disconnected from the steering gear, the internal parts of the contact disk may be damaged.
1. Remove the hinge cover.
2. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear shaft.
3. Disconnect the wires from the front wheel ABS sensors mounted on the steering knuckles and put aside.
4. Remove the front protective tray #2.
5. Remove the front protective tray #1.
6. Remove mudguard.
7. Remove the front subframe assembly (see chapter "Suspension").
8. Unscrew the mounting bolts and, sequentially moving the steering gear in the direction of the arrows in the figure, remove it from the subframe.
Checking the steering gear and rods
1. Remove the steering gearbox with rods as an assembly.
2. Remove the tie rod ends and anthers.
3. Using an adjustable wrench and a dynamometer, measure the moment of resistance to rotation of the steering gear shaft (approximate measuring speed is 5°/sec):
- Place the wrench on the steering gear shaft.
- Measure the distance from the center of the pinion shaft to the edge of the adjustable wrench (dynamometer application points). This will be the length of A.
- Calculate the moment of resistance to rotation of the gear shaft using the following formula:
Moment of resistance to rotation of the gear shaft (Nm) = Measured dynamometer value (H) x Length A (m).
Note: The moment of resistance to the rotation of the pinion shaft (from rail center±180°): 1.0-1.6 Nm.
4. If the value obtained is not correct, replace the steering gear with a new one.
Installation of a steering reducer with draughts assy
Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
After installation, it is necessary to check the alignment angles of the steered wheels of the car (see chapter "Suspension").
