Attention.
- Hot engine and oil can cause burns. Be careful not to burn yourself when removing/installing various components.
- Fuel vapors are dangerous. They are highly flammable, causing serious injury and equipment damage. Keep sparks or open flames away from fuel.
- Leaks and leaks in fuel lines are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause equipment damage, serious injury or even death. Fuel can cause skin and eye irritation. To prevent this, observe the safety regulations when handling fuels and lubricants.
1. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Recharge if necessary.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Perform the procedure for preparing fuel lines for vehicle service (see the relevant section of the chapter "Supply system").
4. Remove the decorative engine cover.
5. Remove glow plugs.
6. Install the compression gauge:
Install the compression gauge adapter (49 S013 102A) into the hole for installing the glow plug.
Tighten the compression gauge adapter with a tightening torque of 15-20 Nm.
Connect compression gauge (49 S010 1A0A) to adapter (49 5013 102A).
7. Measure the compression in the engine cylinder:
- Press the accelerator pedal to the stop.
- Rotate the crankshaft of the engine with a starter, measure the compression in the engine cylinder.
Note: Compression (at 180 rpm):
- Standard: 2255 kPa (22.99 kg/cm2)
- Minimum: 1804 kPa (18.40 kg/cm2)
- Maximum difference between cylinders: 147 kPa (1.50 kg/cm2)
Repeat measurements for all engine cylinders.
8. If the measured values are below the minimum allowable, or the difference between the cylinders exceeds the allowable rate, pour a small amount of engine oil into the engine cylinder through the spark plug hole and repeat the compression measurement:
- If compression increases after adding engine oil, this indicates wear or damage to the piston rings or cylinder bore. Appropriate repairs must be carried out.
- If the compression remains unchanged after adding engine oil, this indicates worn valves or a misfit in their seats, as well as a possible leak in the cylinder head gasket. Appropriate repairs must be carried out.
9. Remove the compression gauge from the engine.
10. Install glow plugs.
11. Install the decorative engine cover.
12. Clear fault codes from the memory of the electronic control unit using the M-MDS device.
