Vehicle identification number
The vehicle identification number is stamped on the rear wall of the engine compartment or is indicated on a plate attached to the instrument panel under the windshield. The vehicle identification number contains information about where and when the vehicle was manufactured, model year and body type.
The engine code is indicated by the eighth digit of the vehicle identification number, counting from the left side. The year of issue is indicated by the 10th digit.

- R - 1993
- R - 1994
- S - 1995
- T - 1996
- V - 1997
- W - 1998

- A - DOHC 2.0L four-cylinder engine
- B - 2.5L DOHC V6 six-cylinder engine
626 and MX-6:
- C - four-cylinder DOHC 2.0L engine
- D - 2.5L DOHC V6 six-cylinder engine
Engine code
The engine code is also located on the front left side of the engine, under the oil filter for four-cylinder engines, and on the right rear side of the engine for six-cylinder engines.
Gearbox identification number
The transmission identification number is located on the manual transmission housing. On models with automatic transmission, it is indicated on a plate affixed to the front of the transmission.
