Vehicle identification number

The vehicle identification number is stamped on the rear wall of the engine compartment or indicated on a plate attached to the instrument panel under the windshield. The vehicle identification number contains information about where and when the vehicle was manufactured, the model year and the body type.
The engine code is indicated by the eighth digit of the vehicle identification number, counting from the left. The year of production is indicated by the 10th digit.

The engine code is also located on the front left side of the engine, under the oil filter for four-cylinder engines, and on the rear right side of the engine for six-cylinder engines.
Gearbox identification number

The transmission identification number is located on the manual transmission housing. On models with automatic transmission, it is indicated on a plate attached to the front of the transmission.
