At the end of the chapter, the differences between the 1.8L diesel engine will be indicated.
Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
This will erase the engine fault memory or radio security code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in Section Removal and installation the battery.
2. Unscrew the battery holder.
3. Remove the air filter, see Chapter Power supply system, carburetor, fuel injection system, Chapter Removal and installation the air filter.
4. Remove the cylinder head cover with gasket.
5. Set the crankshaft to the TDC position of the piston of the 1st cylinder, see Section Removal and installation of the timing belt of engines B3, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
Attention! After this, the position of the crankshaft cannot be changed.
6. Remove the timing belt, see Section Removal and installation of the timing belt of engines B3, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
7. Remove the ignition distributor, see Chapter Ignition system, Chapter Removal and installation the ignition distributor.
8. If there is a mechanical fuel pump on the cylinder head, remove it, see Chapter Power supply system, carburetor, fuel injection system, Chapter Removal and installation/checking the fuel pump.

9. Loosen the rocker arm shaft mounting bolts in the order shown and unscrew them.
10. Mark the installation position of the rocker arm shafts with chalk or a felt-tip pen, remove the shafts complete with rocker arms and springs and set them aside so that they do not fall apart.

Caution! Some engines are equipped with hydraulic tappets. On these engines, no hydraulic tappet should fall out of the rocker arms when removed.
