VZ, V5, V6 engines (SOHC), BP (SOHC), PN
At the end of the chapter, the differences between the 1.8 liter diesel engine will be indicated.
Removing
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
This erases the data from the engine fault memory or the radio's security code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in Section Removing and installing the battery.
2. Unscrew the battery holder.
3. Remove the air filter, see chapter Power system, carburetor, fuel injection system, Chapter Removal and installation of the air filter.
4. Remove the cylinder head cover with gasket.
5. Set the crankshaft to the TDC position of the piston of the 1st cylinder, see Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of VZ, V5, B6 engines (SOHC), VR (SOHC).
Attention! After that, the position of the crankshaft cannot be changed.
6. Remove toothed belt, see Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of VZ, V5, B6 engines (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
7. Remove the ignition distributor, see Chapter Ignition system, Chapter Removal and installation of the distributor of ignition.
8. If available, remove the mechanical fuel pump on the cylinder head, see Chapter Power system, carburetor, fuel injection system, Chapter Removal and installation/check of the fuel pump.
9. Loosen the rocker shaft mounting bolts in the order shown and unscrew them.
10. Mark the installation position of the rocker shafts with chalk or a felt-tip pen, remove the shafts complete with rocker arms and springs and set aside so that they do not fall apart.
Attention! Some engines are equipped with hydraulic tappets. On these engines, none of the hydraulic tappets must fall out of the rocker arms when removed.
