Note: These vehicles are fitted with a 2.2 kW starter.
Vehicle check
1. Make sure the battery is fully charged.
2. Turn a cranked shaft a starter and be convinced that the starter works in regular intervals, without extraneous noise.
3. Connect a voltmeter and an ammeter to the starter as shown.
4. Measure the voltage and current while the starter is running.
- Rated voltage - 11 V
- Rated current - no more than 130 A
If voltage or current is not correct, repair or replace starter components.
Removal and installation
1. Remove the engine trim panel.
2. Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery.
3. Remove the battery and battery tray.
4. Remove the fuel filter assembly without disconnecting the hoses and hang it out of the way.
5. Move the throttle mounting bracket to the side.
6. Remove the parts in the order they are numbered in the figure.
1 - connector "IN",
2 - connector "S",
3 - starter.
7. Installation of details is made in sequence, return to removal.
Checking the operation of the starter
1. Checking the retracting winding of the traction relay.
Connect the wire from the positive battery terminal to the "S" starter (A), and the wire from the negative terminal to the starter housing (mass), as indicated in the figure. Make sure the gear is out.
If the drive gear does not extend, then replace the traction relay assembly.
2. Check if the pinion gear returns.
A) Disconnect the wire from the outlet "M" starter.
b) Connect the wire from the positive battery terminal to the "M" starter (A), and the wire from the negative terminal to the starter housing (mass), as indicated in the figure. Extend the drive gear with a flathead screwdriver and make sure the gear returns to its original position (got involved).
Replace starter if necessary.
3. Check the backlash of the drive gear.
A) Connect the wire from the positive battery terminal to the "S" starter (A), and the wire from the negative terminal to the starter housing (mass), as indicated in the figure. Make sure the gear is out.
Attention: Do not test for more than ten seconds, otherwise the starter may be damaged.
b) Check the gear clearance when the drive gear is extended.
- Nominal clearance - 0 mm
Adjust the clearance with a shim if necessary (between the traction relay and the cover on the drive side).
