Attention:
- If the anti-lock brake system warning light comes on while driving, it indicates that the ABS control unit has detected a fault in the system. In this case, braking is performed in the same way as in vehicles without ABS. If the ABS warning light does not go out, contact a Mazda service center. If the ABS warning light flashes for 10 seconds after starting the engine, the ABS system is faulty. In this case, please contact a Mazda service station as soon as possible.
- The warning light may come on if you repeatedly press the brake pedal while driving on a slippery surface (for example, snow, ice, etc). In this case, stop and turn off the engine. If the warning light does not illuminate while the engine is running, this indicates that the ABS is functioning properly. If, on the contrary, it illuminates again or flashes while the engine is running, contact a Mazda service center. Note that when braking on a soft surface (snow, gravel) the braking distance increases significantly. (A vehicle with a conventional braking system will require a shorter distance to stop under these conditions.) This occurs due to the "cushion" created by the wheel when braking on a soft surface.
Caution! The ABS system cannot compensate for careless driving, speeding, failure to keep a safe distance, or hydroplaning. Even if your car is equipped with ABS, be extremely careful and cautious.
Note: When starting the engine using a spare battery, the engine runs intermittently. Flashing of the anti-lock brake system indicator light is caused by a lack of battery power and does not indicate damage to the system.
