diesel engine, only a fuel quantity sensor is installed without a pump, fuel is supplied from a high pressure fuel pump.
When the fuel level drops, the sensor float also drops. The sliding contact on the float increases the electrical resistance of the sensor. Because of this, the voltage supplied to the instrument panel drops, and the arrow of the fuel gauge moves in the direction of the readings corresponding to an empty tank. On some models, when the fuel level drops to a reserve value, the control lamp on the instrument panel additionally lights up.
Attention: Precautions are described at the beginning of the previous section.
Removing
Remove fuel tank.
Petrol engine: Pull the fuel supply line off the sensor. To loosen, fully press both buttons on the quick release and pull off the connection. This fuel line connection is marked with white paint or a white ring to avoid confusion during installation.
Turn the fastening ring counterclockwise using the special tool. If such devices are not available, then this ring can be turned with a pipe wrench or tapped on it with a hardwood rod and light hammer blows.
Attention: In no case should sparks appear - this is a fire hazard!
Remove the fastening ring together with the gasket.
Pull out the sensor mount, tilt the sensor to the side and remove it. Place a rag under and collect the escaping fuel.
Installation
Clean the sealing surface and fastening from rust and dirt.
Caution: Do not allow contaminants to fall into the fuel tank.
Remove the old O-ring for sensor mounting and replace with a new one.
