Camshafts
1. In order to measure the runout of the camshafts, contact a specialist.
2. Inspect the shaft bearing journals for scratches and signs of wear. If the shafts are worn out, replace them together with the cylinder head. Measure the diameters of the bearing journals.
3. Inspect the shaft cams for wear. Using a micrometer, measure the height of the cams. If the amount of cam wear exceeds the allowable limits, replace the camshaft.
4. Measure the camshaft bearing lubrication gaps with a plastic gauge. If the clearance is out of range, replace the camshaft and recheck. If the result remains the same, replace the cylinder head.
5. Determine the width of the crushed strip of plastic according to a special table.
Pushers
1. Inspect the tappet surfaces for wear, scratches, and signs of overheating. If one or more pushers are damaged, all pushers must be replaced.
2. Measure the outer diameters of the tappets and the inner diameters of the corresponding holes in the head. Subtract the tappet diameter from the bore diameter to get the lubrication gap. Calculate the clearances of all pushers and compare them with the specifications. If the pusher gaps are out of specification, replace the pushers or head.
