Checking the idle speed (Mazda BT-50 (1))

Note: The idle speed on this engine is controlled automatically by the engine control unit.


1. Initial conditions of verification:

a) The battery is in normal condition.

b) The engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature (coolant temperature not less than 70°C).

c) All electrical consumers and air conditioner are turned off.

d) Automatic transmission selector in position "P".

d) The steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

e) The accelerator pedal is not pressed.

g) There are no diagnostic trouble codes.

2. Connect the scanner to the DLC2 diagnostic connector.

3. In the "DATA LIST" menu, select the crankshaft speed "RPM" parameter and check the idle speed.
  • Idle speed - 695 - 745 rpm

4. Turn on the air conditioner and check the idle speed.
  • Idle speed - 725 - 775 rpm

If the idle speed is outside the specified range, check the following components of the electronic engine management system:
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor.
  • Coolant temperature sensor.
  • Crankshaft and camshaft position sensors.
  • Fuel accumulator pressure sensor.
  • Injectors and fuel injection pumps.

If the above components are OK, replace the ECM.
