2. If the same hood latch mechanism is to be reinstalled, make a mark with a pencil or paint around the outer edge of the mechanism so that it can be used to quickly and easily align the hood.
3. Remove the mounting nuts and bolt, disconnect the release cable and remove the lock mechanism from the vehicle.
4. Inside the vehicle, loosen the release cable nut and disconnect the cable from the pedal.
5. Attach a piece of string or thin wire to the end of the cable and pull it into the car.

6. Assembly is carried out in reverse order, after attaching the twine or wire to the new expansion cable and pulling it into place.
7. If the old release cable is broken, the hood can be opened by raising the front of the car and opening the hood lock from below using a long, thin screwdriver.
