Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Open the rear door and place it on the support.

2. Place protective pads along the edges of the opening door to prevent damage to painted surfaces during work.

3. Mark the locations of the hinges with a pencil or paint so that they can be easily reinstalled in their original positions.

4. Unscrew the shock absorber strut from the rear door (Chapter 10).

5. Disconnect any wiring harnesses that will interfere with removal of the tailgate.

6. Remove the hinge mounting bolt and lift the sunroof off the vehicle with the help of an assistant.

Installation

7. Position the rear door correctly, aligning its hinges with the marks made during removal.

8. Install the hinge and shock absorber mounting bolts and tighten them securely. Connect the wire harnesses.

Adjustment

9. The positions of the hinge and strike plate can be adjusted as shown in the accompanying illustrations after loosening the strike plate bolts and hinge nut on the body. In this case, it is necessary to carefully remove the trim panel to gain access to the hinge nuts.
