However, this results in a significant increase in the braking distance.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
- If the ABS system is functioning, a slight vibration can be felt in the steering wheel and brake pedal: this vibration indicates that the system is working.
- When starting the engine, you may hear the noise of the engine pump or the relay operating as the system controls itself automatically.
Carefully!
- Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal while driving. This causes increased brake temperature, excessive wear on the brake linings, and increased braking distance.
- When going downhill or uphill for a long time, shift into a lower gear and avoid constantly pressing the brake pedal. Otherwise, the brakes may overheat and temporarily lose their functionality.
- Driving through deep puddles can cause your brakes to become wet and reduce your braking ability. This means that the car cannot brake normally and may skid to the left or right when the brakes are applied. It is enough to press the pedal lightly to check whether the brakes are wet. To dry them, gently press the pedal all the way down, maintaining a low speed until braking returns to normal.
