In this case, however, there is a significant increase in the length of the braking distance.
Brake system with anti-lock system (ABS)
- If the ABS system is functioning, a slight vibration is felt in the steering wheel and brake pedal: this vibration indicates that the system is working.
- While starting the engine, the noise of the engine pump, or the operation of the relay, may be heard, as the system controls itself automatically.
Carefully!
- Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal while driving. This causes an increase in brake temperature, excessive brake pad wear, and longer stopping distances.
- During a long descent or ascent, shift to a lower gear and avoid constantly pressing the brake pedal. Otherwise, the brakes may overheat and temporarily lose their functionality.
- When driving through deep puddles, the brakes may become wet and the braking ability will be reduced. This means that the vehicle cannot be braked normally and may skid to the left or right when the brakes are applied. It is enough to press the pedal lightly to check if the brakes are wet. To dry them, gently press the pedal to the stop, maintaining a low speed until the braking returns to normal.
