Carefully!
- Starting with a spare battery can be dangerous if done incorrectly. In the event that the following conditions cannot be met, or if you are unsure of the result, it is recommended that you contact a qualified mechanic or call a towing service to start the vehicle.
- Keep batteries out of the reach of children as they contain sulfuric acid. Avoid all acid contact with skin, eyes, clothing or vehicle. If acid is spilled, immediately thoroughly rinse all affected surfaces with clean water. Persons who have received sulfuric acid burns should be immediately taken to a doctor, the affected areas can be washed with clean water.
- Keep fire or sparks away from the battery. The gases produced by the battery during operation are explosive. Do not attempt to start with a spare battery if the unloaded battery is frozen or the electrolyte level is too low: the battery may explode. Do not use 24 V source (e.g. two 12V batteries in series or one 24V), as electrical components may be damaged.
Starting with a spare battery proceeds as follows:
1. Make sure that the spare battery is a 12V battery and that its negative pole is grounded.
2. If another car's spare battery is used, avoid two cars touching.
3. Turn off all unused electrical appliances.
4. Remove all plugs from the two batteries, and place a rag around the openings of both batteries.
5. Battery terminals must be connected in strict sequence. First, connect the positive pole of the dead battery to the positive pole of the auxiliary battery. Then connect the negative pole of the booster battery to the negative pole of the dead battery. Make sure that the metal clips do not come into contact with each other, and that the cars do not touch either. Do not lean over the battery while connecting the contacts.
6. Start the engine of the starting vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. Then start the car engine with a dead battery.
7. Disconnect the terminals carefully, exactly in the reverse order to that indicated in paragraph 5.
8. Remove the rags and attach all plugs.
