The models are equipped with a 4-speed or 5-speed manual transmission, which is a gearbox and differential unit. The drive is transmitted through the gearbox gears to the differential gears, which rotate the drive shafts.
All forward gears are synchronized. The floor-mounted gearshift lever controls the internal gear selection mechanism via a drive rod.
The transmission rebuild procedures described below do not include bearing replacement. Installing new bearings or shafts requires the use of special tools that are not available to the average car owner.
