Inspection of warning lamps
Inspect the warning lamps by turning the ignition key with the engine off and the vehicle on the parking brake. Consult an authorized dealer "Mazda" regarding any of the lamps that do not turn on.
After starting the engine, make sure that all warning lights go out. If any of the lamps continue to burn, they must be given attention. The brake system warning lamps should go out when the vehicle is released from the handbrake.
Brake Warning Light
This lamp has two functions.
Parking Brake Warning
This lamp comes on when the vehicle is parked and the ignition key is turned to the START position (III) or ON (II). It goes out when the parking brake is fully released.
Low brake fluid warning
If this light stays on after the parking brake is fully released, there is a problem with your brakes.
If it continues to burn:
1. Make sure the parking brake is fully released.
2. Check the indicator.
If it is still on, drive your vehicle to the side of the road and stop in a safe place.
You may notice that the brake pedal has become harder to depress or that it may sink lower to the floor. In this case, the braking distance of the car will increase.
3. With the engine off, immediately check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
4. After topping up the brake fluid, check the status of the indicator again.
If the indicator stays on, or if the brakes are not working properly, do not drive the vehicle. Have it towed to an authorized dealer "Mazda".
Even if the lamp goes out, inspect your brake system as soon as possible.
Attention! Brake Warning Light: Driving with the brake warning light on is dangerous. This light indicates that your brakes may not work at all or that they may fail at any time. If this indicator stays on, inspect your brakes immediately. Do not drive with the brake warning light on.
Battery Charging System Warning Light
This warning light indicates a problem with the alternator or charging system.
If it stays on while driving:
1. Drive your vehicle to the edge of the road and stop in a safe place.
2. Turn off the engine. Check for loose or broken alternator drive belt.
3. If everything is in order, the problem is in the charging system. Consult an authorized dealer as soon as possible "Mazda".
Attention! Do not drive if the alternator drive belt is loose or broken. This can cause the engine to overheat as this belt also powers the water pump.
Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light
This warning light indicates low engine oil pressure.
If it lights up while driving:
1. Drive your vehicle to the edge of the road and stop in a safe place.
2. Turn off the engine and check the engine oil level. If the oil level is low, add it.
3. Check the condition of the lamp.
If the light stays on after topping up the oil, have your vehicle towed to the nearest service station or authorized dealer "Mazda".
Attention! Do not let the engine run at low oil pressure. This can cause extensive engine damage.
Traction control warning lamp (TCS) *
This warning light stays on for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to the ON position (II).
It flashes when the system is adjusting the engine torque and stays on when the system is malfunctioning. If it is lit while the system is running, consult an authorized dealer "Mazda".
Low Fuel Warning Light
This indicator indicates that the fuel tank will soon be empty.
It lights up when only 10 liters remain (2.6 US gallons, 2.2 imperial gallons) fuel. Refuel your vehicle as soon as possible.
Glass cleaner low level warning light
This indicator indicates that there is little windshield washer fluid left. Add this liquid.
Anti-Lock Braking System Warning Light
This indicator stays on for a few seconds after the ignition key is turned to the ON position (II).
If the ABS control unit determines that some components are not working properly, it illuminates the ABS warning light.
When the engine is started using the starter, the rotation is uneven and the anti-lock brake system warning light comes on. This indicates a low battery, not a malfunction. Recharge the battery.
Additional security system warning lamp*
If the secondary safety system is OK, the secondary restraint system warning light will illuminate after the ignition is switched on or the engine is started. It turns off after about 6 seconds.
Incorrect operation of the system is indicated by the constant burning of this lamp or the absence of its burning at all. In this case, consult an authorized dealer as soon as possible "Mazda". The system may not work in case of an accident.
Warning! Servicing or tampering with the secondary security system on your own is dangerous. The air bag can be accidentally deployed and become unusable. This could result in serious injury. Never tamper with the secondary security system and always contact your authorized dealer "Mazda" for any maintenance or repair.
Anti-theft warning lamp
When the key is inserted into the ignition, this indicator serves as a warning light for the anti-theft system.
If the anti-theft system is working properly, this lamp will come on when the key is turned to the start position. It will go out after starting the engine.
If the lamp blinks rapidly, does not light up, or lights up and stays on, then this indicates a malfunction in the system. In any of these cases, contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible "Mazda".
Safety indicator light
with anti-theft system
When the key is not in the ignition and the anti-theft deterrent is on, the indicator will flash once every three seconds. This indicates that the system is functioning properly.
with double locking system
After the double locking system is activated, the indicator turns on for 3 seconds. This indicates that the system is working properly.
Lighting staying on
If you stop the engine and leave the lights on, each door will beep when you open it.
High Beam Indicator
This indicator indicates one of the following conditions:
- headlights on;
- the direction indicator lever is in the overtaking flashing position.
Front fog light indicator*
This indicator lights up when the front fog lights are on.
Rear fog light indicator*
This indicator lights up when the rear fog lights are on.
Hold mode indicator (automatic transmission)
This indicator lights up when hold mode is selected.
Cruise Control Enable Indicator
This indicator lights up when the cruise control mode is turned on with the CRUISE MAIN switch.
Cruise indicator
This indicator lights up when cruising speed is set.
Traction Control Disable Indicator (TCS) *
This indicator lights up after the ignition key is turned to the ON position (II). It turns off after starting the engine.
It also comes on when you turn off the traction control system. If this system fails, it will also light up. If it lights up while driving, consult an authorized dealer "Mazda".
Direction indicator
Move the pointer lever down (for left turn) or lift up (for right turn) all the way. The signal will turn off automatically when the turn is completed.
A green light on the instrument panel indicates which signal is working.
If the indicator continues to flash after the turn is completed, return the lever manually to its original position.
Lane change signals
Slightly move the lever up or down - until the indicator flashes - and hold it in this position. It will return to the off position when released.
Attention! If the light stays on without blinking, or blinks abnormally, this may indicate a blown turn signal bulb.
