Inspection of warning lamps

Inspect the warning lights by turning the ignition key with the engine off and the vehicle set to the parking brake. Consult an authorized Mazda dealer regarding any light that does not illuminate.

After starting the engine, make sure that all warning lights go out. If any of the lights remain on, they need attention. The brake warning lights should go out when the vehicle is released from the handbrake.

Brake system warning light

This lamp has two functions.

Parking Brake Installation Warning

This light comes on when the vehicle is set to the parking brake and the ignition key is turned to the START (III) or ON (II) position. It goes out when the parking brake is completely released.

Low brake fluid warning

If this light remains on after the parking brake is fully released, there is a problem with your brakes.

If it continues to burn:

1. Make sure the parking brake is fully released.

2. Check the indicator.

If it still burns, pull the car to the side of the road and stop in a safe place.

You may notice that the brake pedal becomes harder to press or that it may sink lower toward the floor. In this case, the braking distance of the car will increase.

3. With the engine off, immediately check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.

The original article is available on: mazbook.ru

4. After adding brake fluid, check the indicator again.

If the indicator remains on, or if the brakes do not work properly, do not drive the vehicle. Have it towed to an authorized Mazda dealer.

Even if the light goes out, have your brake system inspected as soon as possible.

Caution! Brake Warning Light: Driving with the brake warning light on is dangerous. This light indicates that your brakes may not work at all or that they may fail at any time. If this light remains on, have your brakes inspected immediately. Do not drive when the brake warning light is on.

Battery charging system warning light

This warning light indicates a fault with the alternator or charging system.

If it remains on while the vehicle is moving:

1. Move the car to the edge of the road and stop in a safe place.

2. Turn off the engine. Check that the alternator drive belt is not loose or broken.

3. If everything is ok, the problem is in the charging system. Consult an authorized Mazda dealer as soon as possible.

Caution! Do not drive if the alternator drive belt is loose or broken. This can lead to engine overheating, since this belt also transmits rotation to the water pump.

Engine oil pressure warning light

This warning light indicates low engine oil pressure.

If it lights up while the vehicle is moving:

1. Move the car to the edge of the road and stop in a safe place.

2. Turn off the engine and check the engine oil level. If the oil level is low, add more oil.

3. Check the condition of the lamp.

If the light remains on after adding oil, have your vehicle towed to the nearest service station or an authorized Mazda dealer.

Caution: Do not allow the engine to run with low oil pressure. This can cause extensive engine damage.

Traction Control System (TCS) Warning Light*

This warning lamp remains on for a few seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the ON (II) position.

It flashes when the system is regulating engine torque and remains on steadily when there is a malfunction in the system. If it illuminates while the system is operating, consult an authorized Mazda dealer.

Low fuel level warning light

This indicator signals that the fuel tank will soon be empty.

It lights up when there are only 10 liters left (2.6 US gallons, 2.2 UK gallons) fuel. Refuel the vehicle as soon as possible.

Low windshield washer fluid level warning light

This indicator indicates that there is little windshield washer fluid left. Add this liquid.

Anti-lock braking system warning light

This indicator remains on for a few seconds after the ignition key is turned to the ON (II) position.

If the anti-lock brake system control unit detects that some components are not working properly, it turns on the anti-lock brake system warning light.

When the engine is started using the starting device, uneven rotation is observed and the anti-lock brake system warning lamp comes on. This indicates a low battery, not a malfunction. Recharge the battery.

Additional safety system warning lamp*

If the additional safety system is in order, the additional safety system warning lamp lights up after the ignition is turned on or the engine is started. After about 6 seconds it goes out.

The constant lighting of this lamp or its absence at all indicates that the system is not working properly. In this case, consult an authorized Mazda dealer as soon as possible. The system may not activate in an accident.

Warning! Unauthorized maintenance or tampering with the additional security system is dangerous. The air spring may be accidentally deployed and become unusable. This could result in serious injury. Never tamper with the supplemental restraint system and always take any service or repair to an authorized Mazda dealer.

Anti-theft system warning light

When the key is inserted into the ignition switch, this indicator serves as an anti-theft system warning light.

If the anti-theft system is working properly, this lamp will come on when the key is turned to the starter position. It will go out after the engine starts.

If the lamp flashes frequently, does not light up, or lights up and remains on continuously, this indicates a malfunction in the system. In any of these cases, contact an authorized Mazda dealer as soon as possible.

Safety indicator light

with a thief deterrent system

When the key is not inserted into the ignition and the theft deterrent system is on, the indicator will flash once every three seconds. This indicates that the system is functioning properly.

with double locking system

After the double locking system is engaged, the indicator light comes on for 3 seconds. This indicates that the system is properly engaged.

Lighting that stays on

If you stop the engine and leave the lights on, a horn will sound when you open each door.

High beam indicator

This indicator indicates one of the following conditions:
  • high beam headlights are on;
  • the direction indicator lever is in the flashing position when overtaking.

Front fog light indicator*

This indicator lights up when the front fog lights are turned on.

Rear fog light indicator*

This indicator lights up when the rear fog lights are turned on.

Hold mode indicator (automatic transmission)

This indicator lights when the hold mode is selected.

Cruise speed control mode on indicator

This indicator comes on when the cruise speed control mode is activated by the CRUISE MAIN switch.

Cruising speed setting indicator

This indicator lights up when cruising speed is established.

Traction Control System (TCS) Off Indicator*

This indicator lights up after the ignition key is turned to the ON (II) position. It turns off after the engine starts.

It also comes on when you turn off the traction control system. If there is a malfunction in this system, it also lights up. If it comes on while driving, consult an authorized Mazda dealer.

Direction sign

Move the indicator lever down (for a left turn) or lift up (for a right turn) until the stop. The signal will turn off automatically when the turn is completed.

A green indicator on the instrument panel indicates which signal is working.

If the indicator continues to flash after completing the turn, return the lever manually to its original position.

Lane change signals

Move the lever up or down slightly until the indicator light flashes and hold it in this position. It will return to the off position when released.

Caution! If the indicator remains on without blinking, or blinks abnormally, this may indicate that the turn signal bulb has burned out.
