Overtaking
For extra power when overtaking another vehicle or climbing a hill, fully depress the accelerator. The drive axle will shift to the next lower gear.
Climbing a steep slope from a standstill
To climb a steep slope from a stationary position:
- 1. Depress the brake pedal.
- 2. Switch to D, S, or L, depending on the load being carried and the steepness of the slope.
- 3. Release all brakes by gradually depressing the accelerator.
Descent down a steep slope
When descending a steep slope, switch to S or L, depending on the load being carried and the steepness of the slope. Descend slowly, using the brakes only occasionally to avoid overheating.
Hold Mode
Hold mode overrides automatic shifting and has three positions: third (D), second (S) and first (L).
Using hold
Use the hold mode when starting on slippery surfaces, when going uphill, and to assist the brakes when going downhill.
1. Hold button
Press the hold button to turn on hold mode. Press this button again to turn off hold mode.
When hold mode is enabled
D (move)
The drive axle is held in third gear. However, it automatically shifts to second when stopped and returns to third gear for smoother acceleration.
S (second gear)
The drive axle is held in second gear. Do not drive at speeds over 108 km/h (68 mph) in this position.
L (low speed)
The drive axle will be held in first gear. Do not drive at a speed of more than 60 km/h (38 mph) in this position.
Hold gear pattern
D - hold - 3rd (temporarily 2nd to start moving from a stationary state)
S - hold - 2nd
L - hold - 1st
