A new car has a two-piece exhaust system, which is replaced with a four-piece system during repair. On the factory system, the middle muffler cannot be replaced separately; during repair, the pre- and end mufflers must then be replaced. If only a new end muffler is required, the exhaust system must be cut.

Caution: When installing exhaust system parts, make sure that the parts fit tightly together. Otherwise, incorrect values will be obtained when measuring exhaust gas toxicity.

Removal

Raise and support the vehicle.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Wet all exhaust system nuts and bolts with rust solvent. Wait; so that it starts to act.

Unscrew the nuts and disconnect the exhaust inlet pipe from the catalytic converter. Unhook the front rubber suspension.

Remove the catalytic converter.

Unhook the rear exhaust pipe from the rubber hangers and remove it.

Separate the end muffler from the middle muffler.

Note: If the factory exhaust system is still installed, the rear exhaust pipe may not be removed. In this case, unscrew the shock absorber mount and lower the rear axle slightly.

Installation

Before installation, clean the exhaust manifold and front exhaust pipe flange with a steel brush. Be sure to use new gaskets, bolts and nuts. To make it easier to unscrew the exhaust system nuts and bolts in the future, it is recommended to lubricate them with high-temperature copper grease.

Install the catalytic converter.

Caution: Do not apply high-temperature paste to the exhaust system parts before the catalytic converter. Also, do not use liquid sealant, as otherwise the catalytic converter may be contaminated.

Install the exhaust pipe with a new gasket and lightly tighten it with bolts/nuts on the catalyst.

Hang the exhaust system on rubber hangers. By moving the parts relative to each other, create a gap between them and the bottom of the body. Make sure that the rubber hangers are evenly loaded and not deformed.

Caution: The distance from the exhaust system parts to other vehicle parts must not be less than 25 Nm.

Tighten the rear exhaust pipe mounting bolts/nuts to 50 Nm.

If removed, install the shock absorber mount.

Start the engine and check the exhaust system for leaks.
