Gasoline engines
Be sure to use unleaded gasoline only.
Starting a warm engine by accelerating the vehicle or towing it is not allowed. Use an auxiliary battery. Unburned fuel can cause the catalytic converter to overheat and fail if it flares.
If starting is difficult, do not turn on the starter for a long time. When cranking the engine with a starter, fuel is constantly injected. The cause of the difficult start should be found and corrected.
Do not drive until the fuel tank is completely empty.
If misfiring occurs, avoid high engine speeds and eliminate the cause of the malfunction.
Use only recommended spark plugs.
Only test for spark with the spark plug plug removed, while disabling the fuel injection system by removing the fuel pump relay.
It is not allowed to compare cylinders (balance check) by turning off the ignition of one cylinder. When the ignition of an individual cylinder is switched off (also with diagnostic tool) unburned fuel will enter the catalytic converter.
Gasoline and diesel engines
Do not park your vehicle over dry grass or foliage. The exhaust system near the catalytic converter gets very hot, and after the engine is stopped, the heat continues to dissipate.
Do not apply underbody protectant to exhaust system parts.
Exhaust heat shields must not be replaced.
When pouring or topping up engine oil, pay particular attention to ensure that the oil level on the dipstick never exceeds the maximum mark. Excess oil due to incomplete combustion enters the catalyst and can damage the noble metal layer or even disable the catalyst.
