Attention: If the parts of the valve drive mechanism are to be used further, they must be installed in their previous positions. To avoid possible confusion, it is recommended to prepare a suitable box.
Remove the cylinder head and place it on two wooden blocks.
Loosen the bolts and remove the intake manifold from the cylinder head.
Loosen the bolts and remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
Compress the valve spring with a suitable compressor. Remove the valve cotters and release the valve spring again.
Attention: When taking out the cotters, make sure that the valve stem is not damaged by the pressed plate of the valve spring. Otherwise, the valve will have to be replaced, since a damaged valve stem will not provide the necessary seal. This will result in increased oil consumption and accelerated valve guide wear.
Remove the valve spring cap and valve spring.
Pull the valve down towards the combustion chamber.
Pull out the valve stem seal.
Remove other valves in the same way.
Installation
Before installing the valves, check the valve guides and, if necessary, machine or regrind the valve seats.
Caution: New valve spring caps have very sharp edges at the bottom of their valve cotter hole. This can cause valve stems to be damaged, scratched, etc. Damaged valves should be replaced. If necessary, before installing the valve spring plate, sharp edges must be processed and removed.
Process the valve stem in the places where the crackers fit.
For safety reasons, the valve stem seals must always be replaced.
Lightly grease the valve stem and insert the valve. Do not confuse intake and exhaust valves!
Install a new valve stem seal as described above.
Caution: If the seal is installed without using the plastic protective sleeve, the seal may be damaged. This will result in increased engine oil consumption.
Insert the valve spring and its plate and press them together with a valve spring compressor. Insert crackers so that they fit into the grooves of the valve. Release the constrictor and install the next valve.
Install all remaining valves, being careful not to mix up intake and exhaust valves.
Install the intake manifold with a new gasket on the cylinder head and tighten the bolts crosswise to 20 Nm.
Install the exhaust manifold with new gaskets on the cylinder head and tighten the nuts crosswise to 25 Nm.
Install cylinder head with new gasket (see above).
