Removing
With the ignition off, disconnect the negative cable from the battery. This may erase data from electronic memory blocks. See instructions in chap. «electrical equipment».
Ford Fiesta/Mazda 121: loosen the intake pipe clamps on the air filter and on the intake manifold, remove the intake pipe.
Ford KA: remove the air filter.
Unhook the rope (cravings) «gas» from the throttle body and from the support, set it aside.
Remove the plug (1) and idle air control valve (2).
Detach support (3) for throttle control cable («gas»).
Remove all plugs from the spark plugs by pulling on the plug, not on the high voltage wire. It is better to mark the high-voltage wires so as not to confuse them during further installation.
Unscrew the spark plugs.
Remove the oil filler cap.
Remove the valve cover, rocker shaft and valve lifter rods, being careful not to confuse them.
Screw a suitable compressed air adapter into the spark plug hole.
If there is no adapter, then it can be made from an old spark plug and a suitable hose.
To do this, cut the electrode on the old spark plug «masses» (1). Break the ceramic insulator (2) screwdriver, swing the center electrode (3) back and forth and pull it out. Remains of the central electrode together with the glass insulator (4) and connecting pin (5) remove with a suitable punch with a diameter of about 3 mm. To do this, clamp the candle in a vise.
Attention! The spark plug thread must not be damaged, otherwise the threaded hole for the spark plug in the cylinder head will be damaged.
Screw the adapter into the bore of the respective cylinder and connect it to the compressed air hose.
Compressed air at a pressure of 7-10 bar must be constantly supplied through the hose to the cylinder.
Attention! Do not remove valve springs without compressed air supply, otherwise valves and pistons may be damaged.
Bolt the valve spring compressor to the cylinder head. Compress the valve spring, remove the crackers and release the valve spring.
Attention! When removing the crackers, make sure that the valve stem is not damaged by the pressed plate of the valve spring. Otherwise, the valve will have to be replaced, as a damaged valve stem will not provide the required seal. This will result in increased oil consumption and valve guide wear.
Remove the valve spring cap and valve spring.
Pull out the valve stem seal (2). For this, a special tool is used (1).
Installation
Put on the plastic protective sleeve (2) (usually supplied with a set of seals) on the valve stem. Lightly grease the valve stem seal (1) and using a special tube, carefully put it on the valve guide. Remove protective sleeve and tube.
Attention! If installed without the plastic protective sleeve, the valve stem seal will be damaged. As a result, the engine will consume too much oil.
Install the valve spring and valve spring cap. Compress the spring.
Insert valve cotters. Release valve spring. О Install the rest of the valve stem seals in the same way..
Install push rods and rocker shaft.
Adjust valve clearance.
Replace worn or damaged valve cover gasket. Install the valve cover and tighten the bolts evenly and lightly (moment - 6 Nm). О Fit the oil filler cap.
Unscrew the compressed air adapter. Screw the spark plugs into the head by hand until they stop, without twisting them. Then tighten the spark plugs to 20 Nm.
Install the high-voltage wires on the spark plugs in accordance with the marks made earlier and fix them in the holder on the valve cover.
Install idle air control valve, install plug.
Install cable support «gas».
Attach cable «gas» and adjust it.
Ford Fiesta/Mazda 121: put the intake pipe on the air filter and on the intake manifold, secure it with clamps. '
Ford KA: install air filter.
Connect the negative cable to the battery. Set the clock and enter the codes.
