Steering column — removal and installation (Mazda Capella GC)

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the steering wheel (Chapter 13).

3. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the connecting harnesses.

4. Remove the fan duct.

5. Remove the combination switch (Section 12).

6. Remove the steering column mounting nuts and bolts and the intermediate shaft pinch bolt.

7. Disconnect the steering column from the intermediate shaft and carefully lift the steering column out of the vehicle.

8. Due to the detachable design, the steering column is very sensitive to external contacts, do not damage it when it is removed from the car.

9. If the vehicle has been in an accident in which major body components have been damaged or the steering column has become locked, it must be repaired by a qualified mechanic.

10. To remove the ignition switch/regulator lock, contact Section 12.

11. Assembly is carried out in reverse order. Tighten various fasteners to their specification tightening torques (when it is known).
