Warning: The vehicle exhaust system generates very high temperatures and must be allowed to cool completely before touching any of the components. Be especially careful near the catalytic converter, the food is concentrated at the highest temperature.
1. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on axle stands.
2. Replacing exhaust system components - mostly a matter of removing heat shields (where equipped), disconnecting the component and mounting new ones.
3. Exhaust heat shields and hangers must be re-installed in their original position. Due to the high temperatures and mating of exhaust system components, rust and corrosion can weld parts together. Applying oil or brake fluid to the joints can loosen the hitch at the joints. However, in some cases it may be necessary to cut the components with a hacksaw or oxy-fuel cutting torch. The last method should only be used by people experienced in this job.
