Fuel tank connections
Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when working on any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke or be near open flames or incandescent lamps.
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands.
2. Remove the cable from the negative battery terminal.
3. Drain all fuel from the tank into a clean container.
4. Remove the rear seat and access panel and disconnect the fuel gauge assembly wire.
5. Mark and disconnect the fuel lines and filler pipes on the fuel tank.
6. Using an assistant or a spacer, remove the five mounting bolts.
7. Carefully lower the tank and remove it from the vehicle.
8. Warning: Do not carry out any repair work at high temperatures or when there is a flame near the tank until it has been cleared of gas and vapors. All repair work must be performed by a professional (see next chapter).
9. Before reinstalling the tank, make sure all traces of dirt and corrosion are cleaned. It is recommended to cover rust with paint. However, if the tank is rusty inside, it must be replaced with a new one.
10. Installation is the reverse procedure of removal.
