Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when working on any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke or be near open flames or incandescent lamps.
1. If a part of a metal fuel line is being replaced, only seamless steel tubing should be used, as copper or aluminum do not have sufficient durability.
2. If only one section of the metal fuel line is damaged, it can be disconnected and replaced with a piece of rubber hose. Make sure you use only reinforced, fuel-resistant hose that bears the identifying word "Fluroclastomer." The inner diameter of the hose must match the outer diameter of the metal tube. The rubber hose should be cut ten centimeters longer than the piece to be replaced, so that there is about five centimeters of overlap between the rubber and metal line at both ends.
3. If replacing a section of metal line longer than 12 cm, use a combination of metal tube and rubber hose so that the length of the rubber hose does not exceed 25 cm.
4. Never use a rubber hose within 10 cm of any part of the exhaust system or catalytic converter.
