If it is necessary to reinstall the hood locking mechanism, mark the position of the lock with a marker.

Loosen the lock nut and bolt, disconnect the hood lock cable and remove the locking mechanism (figure 12.1).
Inside the vehicle, loosen the cable mounting nut and disconnect it from the bracket.
Tie a cord to the cable, pull it into the car's interior, and untie the cord, leaving it in the engine compartment bulkhead. The cord will be needed to pull the new cable into place.
Tie a cord to the new cable and pull it through the engine compartment bulkhead.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
If the old cable is damaged, the hood can be opened by raising the front of the car and operating the lock from underneath the car using a long, thin screwdriver.
